Touring a Jungle-Inspired Mediterranean Designer Villa in Mallorca

When and why did you found Marga Comas Interior Design in Palma de Mallorca?

After a stint in the Caribbean, where I worked in interior design for hotel construction, I returned to the island and began to focus more on the residential sector. For a time, I worked alongside a partner, but at some point in my life, our professional paths took different directions. That’s when I founded Marga Comas Interior Design.

How many people work in the studio?

We are 4 interior designers in the office.

What are Marga Comas Interior Design’s specialties and distinctive features? In other words, what sets it apart from the rest?

We focus a lot on the client, on how they explain their life and that of their family. Because we believe that every person is a world on its own, and every world has its own STYLE.

What have been your most important projects?

Many, or almost all, are important, because each one has its own unique detail…

•. Specials are, for example, something we are less accustomed to doing, such as the Private jet terminal in Palma, which we have treated and focused on as if it were a home rather than creating airport spaces: Private aviation terminal.

•. A very special renovation that began with a few small changes and ended up being a complete renovation, and in each meeting, we expanded on ideas. It was very enriching…: GSB.

•. A home with privileged exteriors and views: CNS. Vidal Piñeiro architects.

•. A renovation we did on a complete building in the old town, which was divided into 5 apartments: CVL. Miguel Arenas architect.

•  A concrete house, where the interior design was also a bit different, as the concrete gives it a colder style…: ENVY. Jaime Salvá architect.

In the heart of the picturesque old town of Santanyí, this house is the result of a remarkable transformation thanks to the joint work of PS Arquitectos and Marga Comas in interior design.
Originally composed of two volumes, one residential and the other dedicated to agricultural activities, the building faced serious structural challenges after years of neglect. Faced with this scenario, it was decided to carry out a complete demolition, giving way to a reconstruction of the volumes. The former agricultural space was completely transformed into a spacious and bright living area with a kitchen and dining room. Two generous windows were opened to the exterior patio, and a marés stone arch—a typical sandstone of the island—was preserved as a balcony over the main room of the house. The interior courtyard features a dark-bottomed pool over which water falls like a fountain. In the interiors, the original stone walls contrast with other pure white walls. The selection of woods and the incorporation of three levels along with a lightbox bring the interior spaces to life, flooding them with a warm luminosity.

Marga Comas is an interior designer trained in Barcelona and Oslo with extensive experience in designing hotels in the Caribbean. Since her return in 2010, she developed numerous interior design and decoration projects, and found her own studio.

‘Can Serra de Cavallería, you can now live in a historical palace in Palma.

A restored palace with all the amenities.

It is a home from the past that has been updated with some top-level services: it has a community spa, wine cellar, swimming pool, garden and an exclusive apartment for the tenants’ guests.

The renovation of Can Serra de Cavallería has maintained its original status:

“From the coffered ceiling and the configuration of the house, maintaining the double and triple heights, a large patio with a grill door that reveals the entrance, as well as its majestic classic staircase”

After the renovation and restoration work, the property has been converted into five homes: two main floors and three penthouses, maintaining the character of the old palace.

Each of the homes has a distribution that makes it unique and, based on its distinctive characteristics, it has been given its own name.’
